What is SNOCKER?

Hi there and welcome.

SNOCKER is our physical retail and studio workshop space here in the beachside Port city of Matosinhos, Portugal. This area is the fishing heart of Porto and home to an old fish cannery factory, now closed. We like to think of it as the FISH PACKING district of Porto, much like NYC had it’s MEAT Packing district in the early 2000’s. It is gritty, sunny, full of life and sometime smells a bit fishy. But we like it here.

SNOCKER was the nick-name we had given to the building when dealing with Lawyers and Estate Agents. Originally a snooker hall, bar and restaurant the words ‘Snocker - Bilhar - Club - Pool’ were lettered onto the upstairs windows. We originally thought the word ‘Snocker’ was Portuguese for Snooker. It isn’t and was just a serendipitous mis-print. We liked the word immediately and the name has stuck.

SNOCKER is a new space for us to expand our design practice and to really explore our process, experiment with materials and get messy. A space where we can make mistakes, learn about new ideas, refine our sculpting skills on a larger scale and launch our new pieces under our Batch Living brand.
